The best upgrade that I have made to my Ruger Precision Rifle in .338 Lapua Magnum is the installation of the Terminator Products TF muzzle brake.
I had seen reviews of the rifle which praised it for being one of the most comfortable.338 Lapua Magnums out there, with much of the credit given to the massive brake that Ruger puts on it. However, for such a big and heavy rifle, I still found it to be punishing, worse than a 12 gauge shotgun.
Well, the TF tamed the beast!
I took the rifle to the range today to try out the brake, and while I had seen Terminator Product’s videos on YouTube comparing the TF to the stock Ruger brake, the difference in felt recoil is hard to believe. They say size isn’t everything, and the TF certainly proves that!
I used to tell people to replace the stock trigger with a Timney, but now my recommendation for the first upgrade is to get a TF brake. The stock trigger (while quirky) is serviceable, but the stock muzzle brake clearly leaves a lot to be desired. If you dread shooting the rifle you will never be comfortable behind it, and if the rifle kicks too hard you won’t be able to spot your impacts.
